I like this observation and I'd like to add that a lot of us have no idea how to fix anything either.

How do you fix a broken dishwasher? Any idea how to repair a damaged dryer? What about a furnace? Any idea how to get that going again?

We live in a consumer culture that likes to replace instead of repair.
